What's in a Name?

Updated: Oct 22, 2020

I created this website and blog to market my books—even though I haven't had any REAL books published just yet. You know...the kind that sit on the shelf at Target, or that you can order on Amazon. To shelter myself from having to tell my friends about all the rejection I've experienced along the road to becoming a published author, I decided early on that I'd write under a pen name. (Maybe I'm a coward, but I'm okay with that). So, Sue Kenson is my pseudonym and that's how I identify myself whenever I'm wearing my author hat.

But now I have a dilemma, a good one, but a dilemma all the same. An article I wrote for Grown and Flown, a website dedicated to parenting older children, was recently published. Let me say that again...published! My first paying gig as a writer of my own words and ideas...hooray for me! But guess what? I used my REAL name! I've outed myself. I can't hide behind Sue Kenson if I want to share the news on my blog, which I obviously do. It's ironic (and absolutely thrilling) that the first time someone enjoyed my words enough to put them out there for the world to see has already caused me to pull back the curtain and reveal the real Oz. So call me whatever you like...Sue Kenson or Susan Poole. Either way, I'm proud to share the following article about my time in quarantine with my family during a global pandemic. I hope you enjoy it!
